Could you please provide more detailed use cases and examples. Basic UDF inheritance can be complicated and confusing for new entries or for those that are left blank on purpose etc.

You can create a custom field (UDF) and then set it to True or False. Then using Advanced Search you can filter whether to show entries based on this custom field (UDF).
I totally agree that the ability to change the column setup for Notes is imperative. When you create a Note you have the ability to assign a category, but it doesn't do you a lot of good when you can't see it in the Notes tabbed pane. it would make it much easier to find specific notes if we could sort/filter by category.
